Proficiency Certificate (PC)
The PC certifies a golfer’s basic skills and understanding of golf theorys and etiquette in Singapore, crucial for beginners who wish to play on golf courses without supervision.
- PC Test Assessment: The test evaluates a golfer’s ability to hit the ball a set distance, navigate the course safely, and follow golf theorys and etiquette.
- Importance for Beginners: For new golfers, the PC is essential for learning the nuances of the game and ensuring compliance with specific golf course theorys for smooth access.
- Benefits of the Proficiency Certificate:
- Unsupervised Course Access: It allows new golfers to play independently on golf courses, affirming their grasp of basic gameplay and etiquette.
- Enhanced Safety and Etiquette: The certificate validates a golfer’s knowledge of crucial safety theorys and etiquette, promoting safer and smoother gameplay.
- Advancement in Golf: The PC is a preparatory step for obtaining a Handicap Certificate, requiring golfers to complete typically three full 18-hole rounds (known as the Courtesy Round) before they can take the Handicap Test. The certificate has an expiry date to encourage progression to more advanced levels.

- Procedure to Get a PC:
- Golf Theory Seminar and Test
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Seminar Info: Golf course safety and etiquette, Course Boundaries and Defined Areas of the Course, basic theorys and ruels, pace of play, count scoring, etc.
- The PC Theory Test will be conducted and requires a passing score of 15 out of 20 questions.
- Multiple Distance Test at Friends Golf Driving Range:
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Total 4 distances will be given depending on the division with 5 attempts for each distance.
- Men’s Division Distances: 30m, 50m, 120m, 180m.
- Women & Junior Division Distances: 30m, 50m, 90m, 130m.
- Passing Scores: 50 scores for distance and GIR are required. 3 balls should be airbone at least for each target.

Handicap

- Golfing Abroad: A handicap card is often required when playing on courses outside of Singapore as proof of your playing ability.

- Handicap Theory Test will be conducted and requires a passing score of 13 out of 20 questions.
- 9-Hole Courtesy Round Test
- Duration: 2 hours
- Friends golf coach will participate as a supervisor to monitor the players’ ability to play safely and competently, ensuring they have a good understanding of golf theorys and etiquette, and are scoring honestly, while also overseeing that they achieve certain scores.
- Men and Women division 9-hole score: under 59 strokes
- Junior division 9-hole score: under 62 strokes
